3Makes the fleas angry. In a bad way.  Aug 10, 2009
By Book Geek
My short-haired kittens, now ~12 weeks old, came from the shelter with a free! bonus! infestation of fleas, so I treated the house with frequent vacuuming and very liberal application of Buck Mountain Herbal Gold Parasite Dust, and I treated the animals with Frontline Plus. However, I must have misapplied the Frontline (i.e., put it in a spot where they could lick it off, and didn't sequester the kittens from each other so they couldn't lick the medicine off each other before it dried). The stuff worked dramatically at first, but the kittens never really stopped scratching, and two weeks later, I started seeing adult fleas running around again.

Since I can't reapply Frontline to the boys for another two weeks, this morning I washed them with this shampoo. I lathered each kitten up in turn, starting at his head and paying special attention to his ears, where the fleas like to hang out. I kept the lather on for as close to five minutes as I could, per the directions on the bottle. There were a few dead fleas in the water when I was done, but even as I toweled the boys dry, it was clear that many more live insects were left on their bodies.

Since then, the kittens have been bright, clean, fluffy, soft, . . . and scratching more than ever. Every time I look at them, I see a flea crawling somewhere in their fur--vigorous and seemingly unscathed. It really seems like all this flea shampoo did was to make the fleas more mobile, and more aggressive.

So tomorrow I'll try combing, Victor sticky flea traps, and lots more vacuuming and laundering. I'll use this shampoo for future kitten baths, because I already have it and it seems to leave the boys' fur in a nice state, but I won't expect it to help with the flea problem at all. Disappointing.
